Sabarigiri hydro power station

Moozhiyar, Pathanamthitta

The industrial visit to the Sabarigiri Hydroelectric Power Plant provided practical exposure to large-scale power generation and control systems. During the visit, I gained an understanding of the plant layout, turbine–generator operation, water flow regulation, and the role of control and protection systems in maintaining stable power output. Observing the integration of mechanical and electrical systems helped me connect classroom concepts with real-world power plant operations and appreciate the importance of reliability and safety in hydroelectric generation.

Floating Solar Plant

West Kallada, Kollam

The West Kallada Floating Solar Power Plant is a 50 MW grid-connected renewable energy project developed by NHPC Limited in the West Kallada region of Kerala, with power evacuation and offtake by Kerala State Electricity Board. The project utilizes floating photovoltaic technology to harness solar energy over waterlogged and low-utility paddy fields, enabling optimal land use while preserving agricultural resources. Designed with a DC capacity of 65 MWp, the plant employs high-efficiency bifacial solar modules mounted on modular floating platforms, supported by centralized inverters and a dedicated grid-evacuation system. The installation represents an important step in Kerala’s clean-energy transition, combining technical innovation with sustainable land and water resource management.
